Do the Washington Redskins have Quarterback Controversy Brewing?

Over the past two seasons, the Washington Redskins have failed to live up to expectations with new high-priced players and coaching staff. With two-time Super Bowl title winning head coach Mike Shanahan leading the way, the consensus was that the Redskins would be a force to be reckoned with in the NFC Conference in the near future, but so far Shanahan hasn’t been able to turn this team around. After acquiring Donovan McNabb from the division rival Philadelphia Eagles, the Redskins had finally brought in a franchise quarterback to get this team back on track offensively. Unfortunately, that experiment was a disaster and resulted in a conflict between the quarterback and head coach. Needless to say, the McNabb era in the nation’s capital was short lived and the team had to begin looking at other options. Despite Washington being a place where quarterbacks seemingly go die these days, the storied NFL franchise was able to strike in the 2012 NFL draft by acquiring rookies Robert Griffin III (Baylor) and Kirk Cousins (Michigan State). Obviously, the Redskins are headed in the right direction offensively as they have brought in the right guy in the Heisman trophy out of Baylor in Griffin. Unfortunately, drafting Cousins as well makes some people believe that Washington isn’t completely sold on the superstar out of Texas. With that being said, things are starting to get interesting in Washington with a potential quarterback controversy starting brew. The Redskins have made it known that they intend on making Griffin the starter, but if he struggles there’s a chance that Cousins might get some time under center. It looks like Griffin will be the man for 2012 and subsequently Redskins Tickets will be a hotter item than in years past.

Can the Washington Redskins Contend for the NFC East Title in 2012?

Last season the NFC East reigned supreme once again with the New York Giants winning a second Super Bowl title in the Eli Manning era in the Big Apple. With the Giants proving to be the best team in the NFC Conference, the competition in the NFC East has only gotten tougher. As if the revamping of the Philadelphia Eagles and the extremely talented Dallas Cowboys wasn’t enough to deal with, the Washington Redskins will have their work cut out for them to contend within the division in the 2012 season. Fortunately, despite being a perennial underachiever, the Redskins might being seeing some light at the end of the tunnel after a very successful NFL draft. After drafting Heisman trophy winning quarterback Robert Griffin III with the second overall pick in the draft, the future is looking brighter in the nation’s capital as they finally have the franchise caliber quarterback to build around moving forward. Not only do the Redskins have Griffin under center, but they also have rookie Kirk Cousins backing him up to give the team that much more security at the quarterback position. Whether or not either one of these rookies can come through for this struggling NFL franchise remains to be seen, but if Griffin can turn into next season’s Cam Newton; there might be a playoff run on the horizon. The real question from here on out is whether or not the Redskins can surround Griffin with the right kind of talent. He’ll need a monster offensive line and solid receivers in order to be successful moving forward.
